Any listing in this product directory or other related materials, where “NRTL” appears next to the product name was tested and is listed by ARL as an NRTL, consistent with the requirements of the NRTL Directive.  Other products are listed solely by ARL under its accreditation to ISO 17025 and ISO 17026.

The products listed here are factory made split system and unitary type heat pumps which employ hermetic refrigerant motor compressors and are intended for comfort heating and/or cooling and may also include provisions for supplementary resistive electric heat.  The listings also include compression type equipment designed for installation in, or connected by ducts to, the conditioned space.

When the equipment is supplied in more than one assembly (split system), the separate assemblies are to be used together.  Split system listings are based on the use of matched assemblies.

Requirements for this category of products do not include a heat pump system designed to utilize the indoor fan motor assembly of an installed furnace where (1) the heat pump and furnace are intended to operate simultaneously during heating operation, or (2) the indoor coil is intended to be mounted upstream (return air side) of the furnace.  In addition, requirements for this category do not apply to reverse cycle room air conditioners, to equipment incorporating gas fired or oil fired heating means, or to heat pumps comprising field connected refrigerant containing components other than matched assemblies as indicated above.

Each product is marked with the name or trademark of the (manufacturer) or vendor, a distinctive type, style, model or catalog designation, date code, electrical ratings, electrical hazard warnings, wiring diagram, type and amount of refrigerant employed, reference to supplemental heater(s) used with the heat pump, factory test pressures for suction and discharge sides and, if applicable, marked “Suitable for Outdoor Use.”

These products are rated 600 volts or less and comply with ARL requirements which include pertinent sections of the Standard for Safety, ANSI/UL 559, Heat Pumps.  The products are intended for installation in accordance with the Safety Code for Mechanical Refrigeration, ANSI B9.1; and for heat pumps designed to be connected to air duct systems, in accordance with the Standard for Air Conditioning and Ventilating Systems, NFPA 90A and the Standard for Warm Air Heating and Air Conditioning Systems NFPA 90B.  Requirements for the installation of heat pumps designed to be connected to air duct systems are also included in codes such as the BOCA Basic National Mechanical Code, the Standard Mechanical Code, and the Uniform Mechanical Code.

Products shown in this category were listed prior to the adoption of ANSI/UL 1995, Heating and Cooling Equipment.

A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different from those covered by the requirements of the standard, and that involve a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons, have been evaluated using the appropriate additional component and end-product requirements as determined necessary to maintain the acceptable level of safety as originally anticipated by the intent of the standard.  A product whose features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems conflict with specific provisions of the standard have been judged to be in non-compliance with the standard.

Only products which properly bear the ARL Listing Mark (Label) are considered Listed by ARL.
