Any listing in this product directory or other related materials, where “NRTL” appears next to the product name was tested and is listed by ARL as an NRTL, consistent with the requirements of the NRTL Directive.  Other products are listed solely by ARL under its accreditation to ISO 17025 and ISO 17026.


The products listed here are gas fired and/or electrically energized cooking appliances intended for use in commercial kitchens, restaurants or other business establishments where food is dispensed.  The listings include coffee makers, conductive cookers, food warmers, fryers, griddles, steam kettles, steam cookers, nut warmers, popcorn machines, ranges, utensil warmers and other similar commercial food preparing and cooking appliances.

The requirements for this category do not cover vending machines, cooking appliances intended for household use, commercial cooking appliances rated more than 600 volts, or microwave cooking appliances.

An appliance designed so that it can be mounted and supported at an outlet box, such as a food warmer, has been judged on the basis of compliance with the requirements for this category and with the mounting and weight requirements for electric lighting fixtures.

An appliance that also utilizes heat produced by a means other than electrical, for example, coal, gas, or oil, has been investigated with respect to such additional risk of fire.  Gas fired appliances may utilize natural gas, manufactured gas, mixed gas, propane gas, liquefied petroleum gases, or LP gas / air mixtures.

Each product is marked with the name or trademark of the (manufacturer) or vendor, a distinctive style, type, catalog or model designation, date code, electrical ratings, electrical hazard warnings, wiring diagram, minimum clearances to combustible materials and other fire hazard and cautionary warnings as applicable.

These products are rated 600 volts or less and comply with ARL requirements which include pertinent sections of the Standards for Safety, ANSI/UL 197, Commercial Electric Cooking Appliances, and/or ANSI/IAS Z83.11-1996 / CGA 1.8-M96, Gas Food Service Equipment (formerly ANSI/AGA Z83.12, Gas Food Service Equipment - Baking and Roasting Ovens). They are intended for installation in accordance with the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70 and/or the National Fuel Gas Code, ANSI Z223.1/NFPA 54.

A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different from those covered by the requirements of the standard, and that involve a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons, have been evaluated using the appropriate additional component and end-product requirements as determined necessary to maintain the acceptable level of safety as originally anticipated by the intent of the standard.  A product whose features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems conflict with specific provisions of the standard have been judged to be in non-compliance with the standard.

Only products which properly bear the ARL Listing Mark (Label) are considered Listed by ARL.
