Any listing in this product directory or other related materials, where “NRTL” appears next to the product name was tested by ARL as a NRTL.  The NRTL status for these listed products was valid through January 27th, 2008 unless previously delisted.  These products may remain listed solely by ARL. However, they are no longer under the surveillance of the NRTL program.

SWIMMING POOL PUMPS, FILTERS, CHLORINATORS, AND RELATED MATERIALS AND COMPONENTS

The products listed here are motor operated water pumps of the non-submersible type, pump filter combinations, chlorinators, and related components and materials for use with swimming pools, hot tubs and spas in accordance with the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70.

Swimming pool pumps, pump-filter combinations, and chlorinators covered by requirements for this category may be permanently connected or cord and plug connected to the electrical supply.  Permanently connected units may be covered for indoor use only or for indoor and outdoor use.  Cord and plug connected units are judged under requirements for outdoor use, but may also be used indoors.  Swimming pool pumps intended for use with storable pools are provided with a minimum 25 foot (7.6 meter) non-detachable power supply cord, are double insulated, have no accessible grounded metal, and have inaccessible dead metal connected to the grounding conductor of the cord.  Pumps intended for permanent use may be permanently wired or provided with a maximum 3 foot (0.91 meter) non-detachable power supply cord and, in addition, are provided with an accessible wire connector for bonding to all metal parts of the pool, hot tub, or spa structure and to all electrical equipment conduit and piping within 5 feet (1.5 meter) of the inside wall of the pool, hot tub, or spa.  Hot tub and spa pumps covered by these requirements are not intended for use within an outer enclosure or beneath the skirt of a hot tub or spa, unless so marked.

Chlorinators covered by requirements for this category of products may consist of assemblies such as (1) a chlorinator and clock operated valve for use with a water circulating system, (2) a pump with chlorine injection or (3) electrolytic type chlorinating equipment.

The requirements for this category of products do not cover (1) pumping equipment for fire service or other products that are covered by individual requirements elsewhere, (2) a pump rated at more than 600 volts, (3) a pump rated at more than 5 horsepower (unless NSF 50 investigated), (4) a pump involving a universal motor rated at more than 250 volts, or (5) a sump pump, fountain pump, aquarium pump, or other products for which individual requirements exist.

Each product is marked with the name or trademark of the (manufacturer) or vendor, a distinctive style, type, catalog or model designation,

electrical ratings, wiring diagram, electrical hazard and cautionary warnings, installation warnings, date code, normal running speed and, if applicable, marked “Suitable For Outdoor Use.”

These products comply with ARL requirements which include pertinent sections of one or more of the following standards: (1) Standard for Safety, ANSI/UL 1081, Swimming Pool Pumps, Filters and Chlorinators; (2) NSF 50, Circulation System Components and Related Materials for Swimming Pools, Spas, and Hot Tubs; (3) ANSI A112.21.1M, Floor Drains; (4) IAPMO PS 4-90, Material and Property Standard for Drains for Prefabricated and Precast Showers; and (5) IAPMO SPS 3-93, Material and Property Standard for Skimmers for Spas, Hot Tubs and Swimming Pools.

A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different from those covered by the requirements of the standard, and that involve a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons, have been evaluated using the appropriate additional component and end-product requirements as determined necessary to maintain the acceptable level of safety as originally anticipated by the intent of the standard.  A product whose features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems conflict with specific provisions of the standard have been judged to be in non-compliance with the standard.

Only products which properly bear the ARL Listing Mark (Label) are considered Listed by ARL.
