Any listing in this product directory or other related materials, where “NRTL” appears next to the product name was tested by ARL as a NRTL. The NRTL status for these listed products was valid through January 27th, 2008 unless previously delisted. NRTL labels issued on or before January 27th, 2008 for these products remain valid indefinitely. These products may remain listed solely by ARL. However, they are no longer under the surveillance of the NRTL program.
FLUORESCENT LIGHTING FIXTURES AND LAMP BALLASTS
These products listed here are general use fluorescent lamps, ballasts, and lighting fixtures for commercial, industrial, or residential use in ordinary locations in accordance with the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70.
Some products may be for use in hazardous locations if so specified in the product listing. Fixtures for use in hazardous locations are classified as (1) Class I, Divisions 1 and 2, Groups A, B, C, D; (2) Class II, Division 18, Groups E, F and G; or (3) Class II, Division 2, Group G.
Additional listings include lamp ballasts of the resistance, reactance and electronic (solid state) types for use with fluorescent lamps involving a potential of 2500 volts or less.
A fixture provided with lampholders for both incandescent and fluorescent lamps (a combination incandescent / fluorescent lamp fixture) complies with the requirements of this category and with requirements in the Standard for Incandescent Lighting Fixtures, UL 1571, insofar as they apply to construction, test methods, and marking requirements unique to incandescent lamps.
A fixture provided with lampholders for both fluorescent and high intensity discharge lamps (a combination fluorescent / high intensity discharge lamp fixture) complies with requirements in the Standard for High Intensity Discharge Lighting Fixtures, UL 1572, and with the requirements of this category insofar as they apply to construction, test methods and marking requirements unique to fluorescent lamps.
Each product is marked with the name or trademark of the (manufacturer) or vendor, a distinctive style, type, catalog or model designation, date code, electrical ratings, wiring diagram, electrical hazard warnings, lamp type, maximum lamp wattage, and if applicable, the appropriate class, division and group applications.
These products comply with ARL requirements which include pertinent sections of the Standards for Safety, ANSI/UL 844, Electric Lighting Fixtures for Use in Hazardous (Classified) Locations, ANSI/UL 935, Fluorescent Lamp Ballasts and/or ANSI/UL 1570, Fluorescent Lighting Fixtures. They are intended for installation in accordance with the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70.
A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different from those covered by the requirements of the standard, and that involve a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons, have been evaluated using the appropriate additional component and end-product requirements as determined necessary to maintain the acceptable level of safety as originally anticipated by the intent of the standard.
