Any listing in this product directory or other related materials, where “NRTL” appears next to the product name was tested by ARL as a NRTL. The NRTL status for these listed products was valid through January 27th, 2008 unless previously delisted. NRTL labels issued on or before January 27th, 2008 for these products remain valid indefinitely. These products may remain listed solely by ARL. However, they are no longer under the surveillance of the NRTL program.
FLAME EFFECT SYSTEMS
The products listed here are flame effect systems used for entertainment, exhibition, demonstration, or simulation before an audience in indoor or outdoor conditions. The design, fabrication, installation, testing, control, operation and maintenance of these products are evaluated in accordance with NFPA 160, “Flame Effects Before an Audience.” These products are classified as follows:
Group I Flame Effect - An attended, manually controlled flame effect.
Group II Flame Effect - An individual or group flame designed for unattended operation that is temporarily or permanently installed outside any structure
Group III Flame Effect - An attended, temporarily installed flame effect for a specific production with limited operation and fixed time for removal.
Group IV Flame Effect - A large individual or group flame effect that is permanently installed inside or outside any structure designed for unattended operation without a main show supervisory control system.
Group V Flame Effect - A large individual or group flame effect that is temporarily or permanently installed inside or outside any structure and is designed for intermittent or continuous operation under that supervision of a main show control system but without full-time supervision by a technician.
Group VI Flame Effect - A large individual or group flame effect that is temporarily or permanently installed inside or outside any structure and is designed for intermittent or continuous operation under that supervision of a main show control system and a technical director, with cast members in close proximity to the effect at the time of operation.
Group VII Flame Effect - A large individual or group flame effect that is temporarily or permanently installed inside or outside any structure that, due to its unique operating requirements, does not fit into any other classification.
These requirements do not cover flame effects produced solely by pyrotechnic special effects devices; use of pyrotechnic special effects; storage of flammable solids, liquids, and gases; manufacture, off-site storage and transportation of materials and equipment used to produce flame effects; and use of flame effects in fire training.
The flame effect systems shall employ a control system which consists of the following: an emergency stop capability, fuel management, controlled enabling and arming of flame effect and controlled and repeatable firing of the flame effect. All flame effect systems must be operated by trained personnel a minimum of 21 (twenty-one) years of age.
Each product is marked with the (manufacturer)'s or private labeler's name, trademark, or identifying symbol, a distinctive type, style, model or catalog designation, date code, and/or date of manufacture and must be installed in accordance with the (manufacturer)'s installation instructions. When a (manufacturer) produces products at more than one factory, each system will have a distinctive marking to identify it as the product of a particular factory.
A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different from those covered by the requirements of the standard, and that involve a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons, have been evaluated using the appropriate additional component and end-product requirements as determined necessary to maintain the acceptable level of safety as originally anticipated by the intent of the standard. A product whose features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems conflict with specific provisions of the standard have been judged to be in non-compliance with the standard.
Only products which properly bear the ARL Listing Mark (Label) are considered Listed by ARL.
