FACTORY MADE AIR DUCT, AIR CONNECTOR, AND CLOSURE SYSTEM COMPONENTS

The products listed here are various types of components used in the fabrication of flexible or rigid air ducts and air connectors.

Requirements for this category of products apply to materials for the fabrication of air duct and air connector systems for use in accordance with the Standards of the National Fire Protection Association for the Installation of Air Conditioning and Ventilating Systems, NFPA 90A, and the Installation of Warm Air Heating and Air Conditioning Systems, NFPA 90B.

In addition, the requirements include performance in flame exposure tests of flame resistant fabrics of natural, synthetic, or combinations of natural and synthetic fibers or films.  The flame resistance of the fabric or film may be inherent in the material used or may be the result of chemical treatment to retard ignition and spread of flame.

The listings may also include closure systems consisting of pressure sensitive tapes, heat activated tapes, mastic/fabric combinations, clamp combinations, and other devices used to effect closure of air ducts and connectors.

Each product is marked with the name or trademark of the (manufacturer) or vendor, a distinctive type, style, model or catalog designation, date code, and specific information relative to methods of joining materials.

These products comply with ARL requirements which include pertinent sections of the Standard for Safety, ANSI/UL 214, Tests for Flame Propagation of Fabrics and Films.

A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different from those covered by the requirements of the standard, and that involve a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons, have been evaluated using the appropriate additional component and end-product requirements as determined necessary to maintain the acceptable level of safety as originally anticipated by the intent of the standard.  A product whose features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems conflict with specific provisions of the standard have been judged to be in non-compliance with the standard.

Only products which properly bear the ARL Listing Mark (Label) are considered Listed by ARL.

The products listed here are preformed lengths of flexible or rigid air ducts, materials in the form of boards for field fabrication of lengths of rigid ducts, and preformed flexible air connectors.

For the purpose of these requirements, air ducts and air connectors are classified as follows:

Class 0 - Air ducts and connectors having surface burning characteristics of zero.

Class 1 - Air ducts and connectors having a flame spread index of not over 25 without evidence of continued progressive combustion and a smoke developed index of not over 50.

The listings may also include closure systems consisting of pressure sensitive tapes, heat activated tapes, mastic/fabric combinations, clamp combinations, and other devices used to effect closure of air ducts and connectors.

Each product is marked with the name or trademark of the (manufacturer) or vendor, a distinctive type, style, model or catalog designation, size (diameter), rated air velocity, maximum positive and negative pressures, class rating, flame spread rating, smoke developed rating, date code, and specific information relative to methods of joining materials at intervals not greater than ten feet.  Instructions for making joints are included on the material or with each package of material.  Instructions for the fabrication of material furnished in the form of boards are included with each package of material.

These products comply with ARL requirements which include pertinent sections of the Standard for Safety, UL 181, Factory Made Air Ducts and Air Connectors; and/or UL 181A, Closure Systems for Use with Rigid Air Ducts and Air Connectors; and/or UL 181B, Closure Systems for Use with Flexible Air Ducts and Air Connectors.
